Debuting at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show, the Resonance Concept created at Nissan Design America previews Nissan’s future design direction for the next-generation crossovers.
The Nissan Resonance Concept is a global show-car developed at the company’s US-based Design Center in San Diego, California, under the direction of Shiro Nakamura, senior vice president and chief creative officer of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
The exterior design is bold and driven by aerodynamic efficiency. It adopts a complex surface treatment, with an S-shaped character line spanning the flanks, and distinctive side panels with a smooth interplay of convex and concave shapes.
This use of flowing, provocative lines aims at expressing an aerodynamic, lightweight yet protective feel.
At the front the V-Motion theme is combined with a tinted acrylic grille and Satin Chrome accents. The “motion” starts from the front grille, moves through the hood and incorporates the boomerang shaped headlights, extending up to the sharp, tiny rear-view cameras.
The rear end is characterized by the original development of the D-Pillar area, with the boomerang-shaped taillights extend to the third window and a distinctive graphic treatment creates the impression of a floating roof, underlining the spaciousness of the cabin.
The body color, named Flare Orange, adds more energy and warmth to the overall exterior design.
Interior Design
For the interior, designers imagined what the future of first-class space travel might be: welcoming yet exclusive and high-tech yet premium.
The resulting so-called “VIP lounge,” features light, buttery leather and premium-stitched seats, as well as details like the sequential welcome lighting and natural wood surfaces.
The advanced instrument panel floats on a generous console, creating a forum where the driver can access all infotainment and communication features. Technology is graphically layered to give a holographic experience and visual depth is used to separate information in order of importance.
The open glass roof gives passengers a unique panoramic view and floating elements like the roof lining add to the sense of space and airy lightness. The spacious interior atmosphere is enhanced by the sculpted door panels and the deep shape of the center console.
Technical Features
The Resonance Concept also showcases an efficient hybrid electric drivetrain with all-wheel drive system and the Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).
Among the highlights is Nissan’s proprietary “one-motor, two-clutch” system that combines a smaller displacement internal combustion gasoline engine with an electric motor/lithium-ion battery and advanced management system.
