2013 Ford F-150 King Ranch Special Edition

A major auto show like the Detroit Auto Show always brings the best out of automakers who are participating in the event. And yeah, that even counts a local brand like Ford.

For the 2013 NAIAS, the hometown automaker has introduced a special-edition Ford F-150 that it has affectionately called the King Ranch Special Edition.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this particular special-edition model of the F-150 King Ranch deserves special consideration because of the way Ford designed it.

The combination of aesthetic modifications and powertrain options certainly gives credence to its special-edition designation, so much so that this truck actually holds a certain amount of appeal to us. That being said, it would’ve been better if this baby came out with some performance upgrades too. After all, they’re always a good thing when you’re dealing with trucks of this size.

Exterior

There are not a whole lot of exterior modifications on this one, although if you count the special badging, the revised three-bar grille, and the 18-inch, seven-spoke aluminum wheels with King Ranch painted accents as extensive mods, then by all means. At the very least, that three-bar grille does stand out from the rest of the F-150s you’ll see out on the road.

Interior

The lack of exterior upgrades is made up for by an awesome interior that includes seats wrapped in Chaparral leather with King Ranch embroidery and a dashboard that has its own faux-wood treatment with special ambient lighting. The colors and the subsequent treatment of the interior really feels like you’re out on the outdoors and ready to herd some cattle.

Performance

One of the things we like about the F-150 King Ranch is that it’s offered with a host of engine options, beginning with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 that produces 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque and goes all the way up to a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque.

Pricing

The F-150 King Ranch Special Edition comes with a base price of $43,515. Depending on the optional upgrades you might have, that price can still go up north.
